“Ja” – “Lokot-Lokot” – “Zambo Rolls”
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullaah,
As I’ve said earlier in my other recipe post, my aunt arrived from Zamboanga City. She brought me the ever famous and controversial sweet as a present which is known among the Tausugs as ”Ja”. Why did I say controversial? If I’m not mistaken this sweet originated in SULU where my parents are from and later “borrowed” by the Government of Zamboanga City and the chavacanos take credit for it. I am so tempted to use the term “stolen” but ummm I think it’s too rude. Aanyway, I don’t wanna get into that, the purpose of this post is to give you an idea of how “Ja” is prepared ’cause many people wonder how and think it is something hard to make. It’s not! To make the “Ja” itself is easy rather the utensils essential in making it is the hard part. Inshaa’Allaah I’ll edit this post when I get pictures of the materials needed and additional information. I have seen my folks do it but ummm I’m too lazy right now to enumerate the steps off the top of my head.
Meanwhile, here’s a picture of “Ja” or Zambo Rolls that my aunt brought me… Zambo might be rollin’ indeed but definitely not Rockin’!
